Where:  Bargoed House  – a privately owned

pristine nature reserve on the southern shore of Lake Macquarie, Galgabbee Rd, Swansea.

A brilliant camping area with great amenities.

Phone Bilbo on 4958 4033 for further details.

Directions by road:

Take the Pacific Hwy to Swansea.

2.  At the big roundabout near McDonalds,

turn onto the Old Pacific Hwy. 1.2km to go.

If from Newcastle, cross the Swansea bridge,

go through the shopping centre and turn right

      at the roundabout.

If from Sydney, exit the freeway at the sign to

Swansea, drive through the hills and turn left at

      the roundabout.

3. Travel to Galgabee Rd. Turn Right.

You will go past 2 small traffic calming (cement) islands, through a small roundabout and past a

third traffic calming Island. The entrance is on the right-hand side almost opposite where the houses end on the left-hand side. Look for Sessionfest

signs and flags.

How to get in through the gate:

The gate will be manned for 5 mins on the hour from Friday 4pm–9pm and Saturday 9am–2pm.

Outside of those times at the gate there will be a blackboard with a mobile phone number to ring to summon the gatekeeper.

Haven’t got a mobile phone - then 5min back to

the shopping centre in Swansea to find a public phone to call Bilbo on 0410 584 533 who can meet you at the gate. Or loiter around the gate until the next time it opens on the hour. This means of

course that you will just miss the best session of

the entire weekend.

Directions by water:

1. Launch craft anywhere on Lake Macquarie.

2. Sail, cruise or row southeast.

Poke around listening for music.

3. At the best campsite with music you find, moor boat and swim ashore.

Most likely you have found Sessionfest.

Wherever you have landed, join in and have a

good weekend.

The cost:

camping $3 each per night (kids pay too)

day-trippers $2 each per day (yep, kids pay too)

These fees will be collected on arrival at the gate and your payment will recorded. We will pay

Bargoed House for all our Sessionfest attendees.

If we miss collecting your fee please find Bilbo and pay your share before the weekend is out. Anyone caught avoiding payment will be lynched and then immortalised in ballad.

What to bring: Everything for a usual

camping weekend. Remember your chair, hat, crockery and cutlery, voices, insect repellent and musical instruments.  Maybe a tent and bedding

or a hammock. Food. Towel. Marshmallows.

Mobile phone. Jaffle iron. Camera. Kids. $1 coins.

Sliced fruitcake in a bickie tin.

Camping:  There is plenty of flat camping ground available but we will use the specific

camping areas – not spread all over the site.

Firewood will be available but we must use the specific community fireplaces provided.

Powered sites: There are some powered sites but we expect there will be not enough for

everyone who would like one. Sites will be

allocated on a need basis first (such as for those who use sleep apnoea machines). Let us know when you book why you need a powered site. We appreciate imaginative original yarns but are not completely gullible.

Catering:

♦ Pre-booked. A community-kitchen style meal on Saturday and Sunday nights($10) and a Monday breakfast($5). Payment collected when the meal is served. You get to help prepare and cleanup too, see details below.

   or  Buy meals in Swansea.

or  ♦ Cater for yourself. BYO everything.

The site has great amenities you can use on a clean up after yourself basis. A large stove, BBQ, microwaves fridge, freezer and bench space. Note: these facilities will only be available outside of the times needed by the community kitchen.

Sessionfest will have cold soft drinks, fruit juices, water, tea and coffee available for a gold coin donation (requested donation $1 each).

‘Espresso Essential’ Coffee Van

On site will sell quality coffees, hot chocolate, soups, hot dogs, donuts and toasties.

Pre-booked meals: All participants help by

vegetable peeling before and pot washing after.

Our cooks will oversee the actual cooking.

The menu:

Saturday night: a) Tony Dent’s excellent

Bushman’s Stew (meat and veg)

b) (vegetarian) Sharon’s veggie curry and rice.

followed by damper for desert.

Sunday night: a) Lisa’s baked potato with

spaghetti bolognaise and maybe a corncob or something similar- yet to be finalised.

b) A vegetarian option will again be available

Desert will be a Sara Lee style cake/pudding and ice cream.

Monday breakfast: a) Arch Bishop’s bacon and eggs, with baked beans or spaghetti,

b) muesli or wheatbix and fruit.

Arch may provide you with some of his excellent poetry while he’s at it. Poets are welcome to

contribute to the morning’s entertainment.

Poets please be aware that baked beans can stain pale clothes.

Facilities:

The site has an oval, tennis court, mini putt,

canoes and a boat ramp so come prepared.

There are enclosed play areas for children but parents will need to be responsible for their kids including the teenagers. Remind them that this is a nature reserve.

When you leave remember to take home ALL the children you brought along, not just your

      current favourites.

Activities:

A daytime and an evening chalkboard session will be held on Saturday and Sunday. All

welcome to take part. The board will be

available at the office tent to sign in.

We may even have the Reflexology services of the wonderful Jackie Eyre available for those who need some physical renovation, but we are not sure yet if she will be available. Her prices are reasonable and the results are

excellent. Ask anyone who was at St Albans Festival and attended her stall.

Sing, play, yarn, swap, learn, teach, encourage,

and dare to try something different: and bring

your camera to record everyone else.

Other things to note:

Strictly no pets allowed, as this is a nature

reserve with wild ducklings running around under your feet.

Don’t forget your mobile phone!

Session etiquette applies and NO loud noise

       after 10pm please.

It would be appreciated if everyone respects

this site as we plan to return. Be aware of your rubbish and compostable materials. Take your mess with you.
