SPECIAL DOUBLE BILL: Peter Campbell & Matthew Clarke (Two Voices in the Crowd)

PLEASE NOTE: Unfortunately Gallie had to cancel – we will book him again in the future.  But we’ve replaced him with two fantastic local artists who should not be missed!

Peter Campbell

With musical roots deep in the socially conscious 60s and 70s, decades on the stage, four albums and a songwriter’s take on wrangling and ominous future, Peter Campbell’s infectious indie folk has taken him around the world bringing audiences uplifting, challenging and often hilarious calls to action, connection and healing.

Playing 6/12 string guitars and banjo, Pete’s music has been an ongoing exploration of his political and environmental concerns alongside the bitter-sweet matters of the human heart. His second album, Across the Border, was produced by folk legend Noel Paul Stookey (Paul of Peter, Paul & Mary fame) at his studio in Blue Hill, Maine, USA.  PP&M covered his song Wild Places on their album, Such is Love, and he supported them on their 1982 Australian Tour.

The Bicycle Busker (Matthew Clarke)

The Bicycle Busker (also one-half of well-known local duo Two Voices in the Crowd) is based in Morpeth NSW.

He brings songs & stories from a decade of Busking the Streets of Newcastle, Maitland, and other places afar.  Matthew will be performing solo tonight, and his huge repertoire, lovely guitar work, mellow voice and interesting anecdotes will inform and entertain you.  Matthew will fill your heart & feed your soul with songs of human strength & disappointment.

He will abandon his trusty bicycle and replace the street with a stage at The Newcastle & Hunter Valley Folk Club on Saturday 1st June to perform songs he wrote & songs he wished he’d written, from an extensive repertoire that has resonated with the passing pedestrian parade since he began playing for change in 2011.
